House votes to defund BCAP, fate lies with Senate

The Biomass Crop Assistance Program is in jeopardy as the House voted to defund it, now its fate will be decided by the Senate.
The winners of the recently completed three-year EcoCAR challenge used a combination of extended-range electric power and E85 to grab top honors. Taking first place was Virginia Tech University.
Area residents and a dairy cooperative have concerns about a $10 million project to build an anaerobic digester that would turn manure from area dairies into biomethane in Pixley, Calif. Calgren Renewable Fuels is working to allay those fears.
Gevo Inc., the company currently working on a retrofit of an ethanol plant in Luverne, Minn., has announced a joint venture with Redfield Energy LLC, a 50 MMgy ethanol plant in Redfield, S.D.
University of Warwick professor Timothy Bugg hopes a new lignin-degrading enzyme found in bacteria will help unlock previously unattainable sources of biofuel feedstock. A bacteria found in the soil, possess the ability to break down lignin.
EdeniQ obtains key yeast technology from USDA

California-based EdeniQ Inc. moved one step closer to making cellulosic ethanol a commercial reality when it licensed yeast technology, which can ferment C5 sugars such as xylose.
The U.S. Senate held its second vote of the week on an amendment to repeal the 45-cent-per-gallon Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit and the 54-cent ethanol import tariff on June 16, this time approving the measure by a vote of 73 to 27.
The ethanol industry unveiled its latest offer for ethanol policy reform on June 13 with the introduction of legislation by Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., to convert VEETC to a variable credit in July.
The debate over federal tax credits for ethanol continues to dominate conversations in Washington D.C. as senators gear up for more votes on the issue in the coming weeks.

Senate saves VEETC again

The U.S. Senate defeated an amendment to repeal the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit and the ethanol import tariff by a vote of 40-59 on June 14. Ethanol groups say they will now push for comprehensive energy reform.
Just a week after a enacting a one-for-seven reverse stock split that brought stock prices up over $1, Pacific Ethanol Inc. announced it was increasing the credit facility of its subsidiary.
