Homegrown Fuels Podcast Episode 13. Sen. Tom Daschle earned the nickname Dasch-ahol for his gasohol advocacy. He served as South Dakota’s Representative beginning in 1978 in the midst of the gasohol craze, and was elected to the Senate in 1985. He teamed with Sen. Bob Dole to get the oxygenate requirement favoring ethanol into the amended Clean Air Act in the 1990s, and introduced legislation shortly after that after three tried was passed in 2005-- the Renewable Fuel Standard.
